Hon. Kibaki, Raila must initiate Dialogue. Kenyans need their country!

Kenya has degenerated into a hub of noise-making at the expense of delivering crucial services to Kenyans. Accusations and counter accusations have pitted ODM and PNU on underlying issues ranging from PMs contentious salary package, PM/VP protocol, top govt appointments, corruption, Waki Report, renegotiation of the National Reconciliation Accord, judicial reforms agenda, IDPs issues notwithstanding among others.

Why is conflict in the Coalition Gov’t?I guess there exists mistrust between the two principals (Raila and Kibaki). This emanated from 2003 when the power sharing agreement(MOU) was flouted by Hon. Kibaki. Co-incidentally, the two principals met again in 2007 presidential elections. The rest is History. The Coalition is basically managed by the two principals and thus there’s no way it can be managed by either Kibaki or Raila alone; Lest the Coalition collapses. I strongly believe that there’s away the two principals can work and coexist as one government.

Dialogue, frequent briefs on government issues, closed door meeting between the two principals, wider and mature consultations will remain the best method as the methodology of the last resort to rely on. Any backstabbing of each other, public quarreling, sidelining each other intentionally in key government functionaries will not bear meaningful fruits because theirs is a coalition/marriage of convenience.

Coalition Governments have since worked elsewhere - Germany, Israel, etc...Worse still is that any attempt for either of the key Coalition partner quitting Government will ultimately mean the collapse of the entire Government. This will necessitate fresh elections. Remember IIEC is not yet constituted. Gentlemen Kenyan MPS will be a very unhappy lot if any election is called now because majority of them will not be able to see the doors of the IITH Parliament.

Kenyans are unhappy with this squabbling in Govt and the morale is at the lowest ebb. Kenyans cannot afford any other violence that they witnessed in 2007/2008. Most Kenyans are not sure of tomorrow, the next meal, unemployment, grand corruption incidences, bleak future for the youth while Waki Report remain thorny, suspicious, outstanding and challenging. The way forward for the Coalition Govt remains Dialogue, Dialogue and Dialogue. Otherwise SERENA II is bound to take place with Koffi Annan in limelight since Kenya is his five year project till 2012.

Continued conflict makes Kenyans(the mighty and the poor) worried, it makes them hate current leaders, and probably seek for alternative leadership. Kenyans elected all of you in the high profile offices because they believed that you could initiate needed change in the country. If these conflicts persist our hopes are dashed, vision 2030 will remain a pipe dream to achieve and any tangible growth and development.

Further, the Kenyan people and especially the youth want their country safe, they are crying loudly. The youth and the succeeding generations need to find their beautiful country safe and prosperous which is rich in resources, educated manpower, disciplined leaders that respect human Rights principles and the rule of law and order.

If this country degenerates into chaos, violence and slides into a conflict ridden country, the two principals will bear the greatest blame and you will be judged harshly by the Succeeding generations for many centuries. You need to crack the whip and embrace dialogue.

Why is dialogue crucial? Initially, dialogue builds trust and consensus, increases optimism, promotes hope and dismisses hopelessness, generates positive ideas, reconstructs broken fabrics of communication and promises bright future for the Kenyans.

Both ODM and PNU need to shun backstabbing and instead enhance reconciliation, Nation building, peace building and conflict Resolution. Let conflicts be resolved in Boardrooms, closed door meetings, avoid open outbursts, contain your party kingpins away (Kibaki and Raila) and meanwhile keep the press away as you resolve key issues that affect running of govt.

Finally, to govt ministers; Kenyans elected you because they believed you could help build this country beyond where it is now.We believed that you could advise the President wisely and the PM so that we achieve meaningful development. Are you doing exactly that? If not then you are failing dismally.Unite your constituents, unite Kenyans.

You can never know the dangers of conflict until you meet it head on.Kenyan embrace dialogue and force our leaders to embrace it in Kenya.

The PM should realize that we as Kenyans are tired of his tough talk that isnt achieving anything. We all know that Gicheru and Ali, as individuals cannot change the system, its the system that needs to be changed. Majority of our institutions urgently need reform, and this is what the PM needs to concentrate on.

We won’t help a thing if we point fingers at individuals here be it Raila Or Mwai Kibaki, the two are to blame, first you have to agree that if the accord was followed to the letter,we would not have these side shows, saying that Raila has tough talk is not the truth of the matter, have you given it a thought that The president is not running the government like a coalition one?The only answer here is that the President and the Prime minister should sit down and organize their house, gone are the days when we should judge people on tribal perspectives.

Odinga wanted prestige not leadership, no wonder Kibaki lets him spar with Muthaura. This guy hides some bitterness, but thanks he lets off his guard all quite too often.

Does Kibaki let Raila spar with Muthaura or he sets Muthaura to Spar with Raila?

Kaduu,do you think Kibaki should be in that position he is in in the first place? He is a thief and many people want to forget this.

Raila should get rid of corrupt ministers like Ruto first. His public utterances exhibit some angry undertones and bipartisanship rather than the real problem at hand.

The best way for a man to deliver is when he has the tools to use for service delivery,if you deny that person the tools and then claim he isn’t working you may only be hoodwinking Kenyans.

The problem in Kenya is the political system. When PM and the PRESD have to rely on their cronies to get elected,it's hard to fire 'em.Raila himself is doing this with Ruto.
1 Stars
Very true, but we should also remember that Ruto hasn’t been proved corrupt just yet,we have many other ministers who are not in Raila’s wings and have been found guilty but are still being held in Government by the other coalition partners.

Raila is used to opposition politics. It will take him a long time to adjust to his PM position. Less talking and more action would suffice.
2 Stars
Elton, maybe you have not been following the Prime Ministers Politics,in fact he has changed tact so much that he has been handling many issues from inside unlike the opposition Raila who we knew could hit out at anything,he has so far according to me been working,he isn’t Just talking as you are putting it,infact if you take a closer look he has done more than Kibaki.
The problem here is that the two principals have stopped reading from the same script as they were doing before and the PNU side of the coalition has refused to respect their coalition partners, they are running the government as if it is a one party leadership, yet we have a coalition here.

Raila is an activist not a leader,,,and more so most of his ODM team. If he is serious in reforms, we would be seing the results not hearing his noise. Whoever said empty tim makes loudest noise

How is Raila making noise if i may ask?

You don't have a headache because your body craves asprin! Root causes of problems in Kenya is the idea of/or lack "rule of law". When maurading gangs are on streets, neighborhoods nad country side killing innocent Kenyans, what would the PM have the police do? Wave roses at them?
2 Stars
The PM tried to introduce the FBI into Extra Judicial Killings in Kenya recently,he instructed the Security Minister to provide a working environment for them, copied the letter to the president and the US embassy but the minister did nothing,he never replied the letter from his Senior, and never did anything to show he was in agreement with the PM all this went on with The president not commenting,so is it the Leadership Of Raila that has failed or is it just that his working space is being limited by frustrations from his partner (President kibaki?

Intent to act and taking action are two different matters. Constantly yelling and castigating civil servants will not bring an end to corruption and extra-judicial shootings...two years of talking is kind getting to be fairly tales.

Very true and that is why Kibaki and Raila should agree on a working formulae

Coalition government in Kenya also. Being an Indian I can understand your sorrow as the same situation prevails here.
2 Stars
But our Kenya coalition is not working as a coalition in fact the government is being run as a one party government where one coalition partner calls the short in almost everything yet the other partner is the one with the majority in parliament.

Very true Duncan, the only thing needed now is dialogue between the two principals.
