The magnitude of the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa is so huge that many people have become desensitized about the suffering and human toll of the disease. However, the fact still remains that 25 million adults and children have died in Sub- Sahara Africa due to AIDS and another 30 million are currently living with the disease. In 2007 alone, another 2.6 million adults and children died and 2.5 million became infected with HIV.
I think no one needs to become a full time activist to make a difference and help fight the spread of HIV/AIDS in Africa. There are many effective ways through which you can become part of the solution. Here a few Ways to Get Involved in the fight against HIV/AIDS in Africa:
1. Engage your local community
2. Engage your Elected Leaders
3. Engage your Faith Community
4. Invite your friends to Take Action
5. Write an op-ed in your local newspaper
6. Host a community fundraiser
7. Donate to an HIV/AIDS organization
8. Volunteer
9. Join Online Communities
I chose to write about the killer disease so that the few who can get my message can make a difference.
This poem is the second on the topic that i submit at instablogs.
THE MONSTER.
He clears everything he finds in his path,
He callously disfigures any flesh,
That his bloody hands lay their palm on,
Without any speck of mercy,
He stops the heart from dancing,
When the white soldiers throw in,
Their antiseptic towels.
If there was a prognosis,
Which would alarm his coming,
Then more people would be prepared,
Prepared to fight the illegal war,
In rubber and grease,
But!
Many go to the battlefield unarmed!
What an awful beginning?
People think he is factitious, .
Deafening their ears not to hear,
And blinding their eyes not to eye,
For they claim it’s a means,
Cooked to deny them satisfaction,
They prefer eating the banana,
Eating it without it’s peelings,
Yet-
It’s a reality.
His spread is overwhelming,
His means of getting livelihood;
Disgusting!
He knocks on anybody’s door,
Not choosing whether..
It’s big or small,
Old or young,
Or rich or poor,
Knocks without selfishness,
But kills with selfishness.
In the buzzing club halls,
In the confusion caused by..
The cries of breaking glass,
Yet some glasses are also being broken..
In the deamlit upstairs rooms,
And this makes me to ask;
Who will pick the once shiny glass,
That now lies in fragments?
The testubes have failed,
Failed to get the immunity,
The bulletproof formulae,
That could save,
Save the hungry hyenas,
Who eat even the corpses,
Not caring the stench
For they seek satisfaction of flesh.
Were the mother’s pains in vain?
So that they by following the right path,
Why not safeguard the newborn?
Don’t die young,
Show them the path without predators,
Teach them how to swim in rubber,
So that they don’t drown in the great Zambezi,
Teach them how to say A-B-C,
So that they mature with weapons,
Ready to boost their white soldiers,
Life shall be zestful,
Yep!He shall be conquered
