The protection and conservation of the Maasai Mara wildlife park is of great importance not only for Kenya and Kenyan economy but also for the environment and the world. It is a world property. The whole world should be concerned if anything is going wrong about it.

This is a very complicated issue that doesn’t seem to have many easy solutions. For starters the government can ban the land resale of Maasai Mara to developers and make encroachment for grazing livestock a serious penal offense. With so much eyes on the park, it would not be very hard to monitor this.

It is so unfortunate and regrettable that some natural resources in this country that are the back bone of the country’s economy are becoming endagered by day, Kenya cannot afford to fail to salvage the Mara Reserve which is one of our major tourist attractions though if steps taken by the government recently is anything to go by, we can be sure of protecting the reserve.

There had always been concerns of mismanagement of the hundreds of millions of tourist dollars that came to Kenya because of Maasai Mara. Then there had always been concerns that over tourism was actually interfering with the lifestyle of the wildlife there.

For the (effective) preservation of the park such things were by and large not raised by the international community. However, the park being in immediate danger might change a few things. Hopefully, the Kenyan government will be wise enough to preserve the goose that laid golden eggs for it.

In the past few days concerns have been shown in the construction of a tourist camp in the maasai mara,and if we are going to have the same concerns in the fundamental problems surrounding mara then we are headed on the right track.
